Morphine | 1 mg/ml and give at 1-10 ml/hr in Normal saline | Familiar drug. Cheap and reliable. half life is long and so takes time to wear off. Onset can be slow up to 30 minutes |
Fentanyl | 50 mcg/ml and give at 1-10 ml/hr in Normal saline | Rapid onset. Can build up. |
Alfentanil | 500 mcg/ml and give at 1-10 ml/hr in Normal saline | Instant onset and rapid offset once stopped. |
Remifantanil | 100 mcg/ml and give at 1-10 ml/hr in Normal saline | Short acting. Expensive. Respiratory depressant |

Propofol | Neat as 1% 10 mg/ml at 1-30 ml/hr or 2% 20 mg/ml at 1-20ml/hr | Can cause hypotension in large doses and respiratory depression. Rapid onset. can provide instant sedation of combative patients. Quick offset. Metabolic acidosis if prolonged use. Raised lipids and LFTs. |
Midazolam | 1 mg/ml at 1-20 ml/hr | Slow offset. Accumulates in renal failure |
